Star Downloader 1.43 - anyone found it?

I went looking for the 1.43 Update of free Starloader today at
www.starloader.com. Starloader directed me to Major Geeks, File Forum,
and Simtel.

I tried Major Geeks first, and downloaded what was listed as V1.43,
uninstalled 1.42, and installed 1.43 - or so I thought until I ran it.
It said "V1.42". So I looked at the setup file, which told me nothing
except the size, no version number. I then went to File Forum, and
noted that V1.43 was supposed to be 1.57MB, while the file I got from
Major Geeks is only 1.37MB. Tried to download the file, but couldn't.
Went to Simtel, and couldn't get a download going there either.

Has anyone downloaded and installed Starloader 1.43?

The reason I was trying to upgrade was V_1.42's inability to download
Lindows/Linspire. The ftp site doesn't provide a URL for the file, and
Stardownloader can't pick it up from IE. I'm running IE 5.01, which
won't resume, and the download has died after 50, 90, 123 MB....

That URL is not the Star Downloader URL. Their website is
www.stardownloader.com

The latest free version is 1.42.

We said before that we wouldn't continue to develop the free version
of SD but like many of you have mentioned, it's not fair that the
version contains known bugs. This has hopefully been fixed now and we
hope that the users of the free version are happy!

Download the updated version

An updated version of the Pro version will also come soon.

Try this with an ftp client. This is what fileforum points to.

Hmm, I dunno... but you might check out NetTransport
(http://www.xi-soft.com/default.htm). I used to use StarDownloader,
then I switched to LeechGet. I wasn't really happy with either one,
as they both were somewhat of resource hogs and unreliable. I just
recently (as in a couple of days ago) switched to NetTransport, and I
haven't looked back. Not only does it take up less resources, it also
supports downloading streaming media such as Windows Media and such.
I've been really impressed -- given a .asx (streaming Windows Media)
file, it automatically parses it, recovers the MMS protocol URL, and
downloads the streaming media with segmented downloading.

It seems to be pretty stable so far, although a couple of days aren't
really enough to say for sure how solid it is.

Anyways, give it a whirl... only the second mirror was working for me
when I downloaded it. If you can't get it, let me know, and I can
upload it to my server for you.

Have just tried Stardownloader 1.43, and DLExpert99, and am still
looking. Can't use LeechGet without going to IE6, which I'm not ready
to do. So I'll have a look at NetTransport. Thanks.

You are right. I hadn't checked the newest version. I didn't think
they were going to make another free vesion. I'm glad they did :)

It's much better. If you want to have a standard signature, which is for example supported by
nearly all news client (ie skipped when being quoted), you may try the following :

double-dash space CR

Ok, trying your formula now. But I'm puzzled - why isn't YOUR
signature skipped when I quote your posting in Free Agent?
