Standby/Sleep Mode

J

Jerome

Hello

When I place my PC in Sleep/Stanby mode it will variously
retire to that mode or after a short time come back to
full operational mode. If it stays in the Standy mode
(with a blank Monitor and blinking Case LED) for the time
I'm in the area when I leave and return there will be
times when the PC will have returned to full operational
mode. When I check the Event Viewer it shows the
following message:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Tcpip
Event Category: None
Event ID: 4201
Date: 7/2/2004
Time: 10:40:38 PM

Hi,

One of two possibilities occurs to me:

- your network card driver is not fully compatible with the sleep mode. You
may require an updated one. Not all cards support this function, so no
update may exist. Check with the card manufacturer for the availability of
an update (do not rely on Windows Update for this).

- your system has a "wake on lan" feature enabled in the system BIOS. If
this is the case, simply disabling it should resolve the issue. Check your
motherboard or system manual for proper instructions on accessing the system
BIOS at boot.
