Standby options gone... please help

Dylan Burris

I have assembled a new computer, and purchased Windows XP
professional with SP1 included on the disk.

I have no standby or hibernate options now. Standby is
greyed out on the shutdown screen. Hibernate is no longer
available. All the latest drivers were installed... all
of them Windows Certified... still, the same problem. I
downloaded all the windows updates. Still the same
problem. I briefly installed a frien's version of WinXP
without SP1 and standby and hibernate options are
available and work fine. But for obvious reasons, that
version can not stay on my machine. All hardware is
listed below.

Abit IC7-G (latest bios installed)
2.8Ghz P4
1GB Corsair XMS
Two 36GB Raptor HDs on a striped raid config.
Plextor Premium 52/32/52
LeadTek GeForce FX 5900
External Sony DVD-RW on a USB connection.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Visit the support website of the manufacturer of your computer or video card.
Search for the latest Windows XP compatible video adapter drivers.
Download and install them in accordance with the installation instructions.
After installing the correct drivers, you should have the Standby button.

Thank you for your templated response (I think), but I
have done this already. With or without all the latest
drivers installed, (including the video card) the standby
options do not appear. With a non SP1 version of XP,
however, it does appear. Is there any way to trouble
shoot this?
