Standby & Hybernate Greyed Out

Hi,
The Standby & Hybernate button is Greyed Out on a XP-Pro
installation. I have installed all the latest drivers and
updates. I have removed (i think) it from device manager
and restarted the pc. It finds the device and reinstalls
it but still does not work.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Do you have a pagefile on your system volume at least as large as
your installed RAM? Do you have Standby enabled in the Power
Options? Certain installed devices will not let you go into
hibernation. Included are some USB keyboards and mice.

I once had this because of a PCI device driver that was not XP or 2000
compatible. Apparently XP knows if a PCI driver cannot support standby
and then disables the option. Since you say all your drivers are the
latest try disabling any add-on pci cards from device manager and
reboot. If standby comes back then enable them one by one until you
find the culprit.

I had the same problem with the standby button blacked out, but thankfully found a solution. I had recently updated the drivers for my logitech usb wheel mouse and microsoft intellitype keyboard. After, I noticed that my system would not enter standby as dictated in my power options. So after numerous searches and hours of screwing around in control panel I decided to remove the according programs for mouse and keyboard. Finnally the standby option is available again.
