Standard CAB format

After trying to open a CAB file I get the following
message:
"Winzip cannot open <file.cab> because it is not in the
standard MS CAB format (as defined in mid-1998).
The "Signature bytes" required by the Microsoft CAB
specification are missing"

I would normally assume the file is corrupt, but I used
it fine on another computer with XP. On my laptop (IBM
T30 with XP) it's getting this error. Both the computers
have the same version of WinZip and I've tried
reinstalling them too.

I'm just hoping that someone else has seen this. Thanks.

Actually, I have... There are more types of CABinet files that just the
Microsoft ones. It sounds like you are trying to open a CAb file made by
one of the major Installer program systems, such as InstallShield or
Vise... They are different formats, and Winzip won't be able to open them.

Hope this helps, and, as always, your mileage may vary,
