stacked charts %

Hi,

I'm trying to put a budget review in a stacked chart.

Suppose I have four columns of data: 1) total budget, 2) total spend, 3)
total committed, 4) budget left. Now I would like to make a chart that gives
me 2,3 and 4 as % of the total budget. The 100% stacked column chart seemed
appropriate. However (and unfortunately) it is possible that 2+3+4 exceed
the total budget and I do not succeed in getting this right in this type of
chart.

Any suggestions? I looked at the
http://www.andypope.info/charts/StackColTotal.htm
but it does not give an explanation on the % chart.

I'm not sure my example is suitable for your problem.

I think you need to create a clustered stack chart.
Where 1 is a stack by itself clustered next to a stack containing values
2+3+4. That way you can see if the total of 2+3+4 exceeds the value of 1.

Thx for the suggestion Andy, but I used yet another approach. I just put in
a few more columns in the datasheet which represent the % value of 2,3 and 4
compared to 1. Then I put these three sets of data in a 100% stacked column
chart.

Your approach didn't suit me since the absolute values of the different
budgets differ a lot (factor 1000). So putting them in one chart did not
give me a clear picture.
