I need some advanced help, if you would be so kind. I inheirited a laptop
from my son and it has SQL server loaded. 1. Do I need this to run the
computer. 2. I don't host anything from here, should I just let it remain? I
would like to recature the space on the hard drive if I don't need it. Help
please. Thanks.

No.

Trouble is you might have another application running on your computer
that uses SQL Server. If you're confident you don't then yes you can
remove it.

If you are not confident it's not in use then:
Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Scroll to the
ones that start with "SQL Server", double-click and set the Startup
Type to Disabled.
Reboot the machine and run your normal apps. If one barks at you
you're lucky you didn't uninstall it.
