Spyware question

Jane P.

I just read about that guy Tommy and how there was spyware
on his computer and he didn't know about it, could someone
review my processes and tell me if there is something
unusual? I let a lot of my friends use my computer and I
don't know what they have been doing so this would make me
feel a lot better if I knew if anything was wrong.
Here is my list:
system idle process
system
smss.exe
winlogon.exe
csrss.exe
services.exe
lsass.exe
iexplore.exe
svchost.exe
spoolsv.exe
svchost.exe
regsvc.exe
mstask.exe
winmgmt.exe
svchost.exe
slmss.exe
taskmgr.exe
windowsupd1.exe
starter.exe
wuauclt.exe
ltsstart.exe
explorer.exe

Thanks in advance everyone :)

Jane,

I use a program called PestPatrol. You can download a
trial version at the site www.pestpatrol.com. It's in-
expensive if you decide to buy it and well worth the
investment (about $35 I think for a personal edition).
It will notify you of any Spyware programs you have and
allow you to either delete or quarantine them.

DIY. Substitute the process name (lower case, without the .exe) for
PROC in the following:

http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/PROC/

That site has a page for every system proc & most common apps.
If you get a 404 Not Found, then it's time to try Google:

http://www.google.com/search?q=PROC

HTH,
-Jeremy

PS. In a quick scan of your list, the ones I didn't recognize were:
slmss.exe
windowsupd1.exe
ltsstart.exe

Try download Ad-Aware 6.0 build 181. This will find any
ad-software and spywares out there and it is free. You can
download it from CNET or from their own site. In addition,
if you want to know about all startups running on your
machine the following site is the best...

http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

Simply type in the process name and read what it is and
who installed it. Hope it helps.

Questionable:

slmss.exe
windowsupd1.exe
starter.exe
wuauclt.exe
ltsstart.exe

Now I need to know where these executables exist on the machine. I also need to know if any have select the file | right-click | Properties | a version tab with the copyright.
