spyware can't handle backup file sets

I backup my computer to a file (about 15 gigs) on a
monthly basis. When I first installed microsoft anti-
spyware it would scan my computer without problems. I
then ran a new backup. Now anti-spyware hangs up every
time I run either a deep or quick scan when it tries to
scan the entire backup set. There does not seem to be any
way to exclude specific files from the scan. As long as
this backup set remains on my hard drive, anti-spyware is
useless.

I know it's already been mentioned, but I too hope to soon see an exclusion
feature in a future release. Personally I think it would even be very
helpful for beta testing to be able to do specific exclusions of
files/directories.

In the meantime, is there a non-C drive that you can store these backup sets
on? And then you can do just a scan of the C drive in MS AS 1.0 beta without
problems again? I know it's not a true solution, but at least that gives you
the protection and beta testing options while waiting for a new release with
a better solution.

Thanks for the suggestion. In the meantime I moved the
backup set to a lower directory and reran the scan, just
to see what happened. Interestingly, this worked
perfectly. Apparently the presence of the file in the
root directory was the problem.

All's well that ends well.

Very interesting!

It might be helpful to the developers if you could give a few more
particulars:

What backup program and version was involved?

What's a typical name of the file or files that constitute the backup?

What are the two cases that illustrate the problem?

i.e. case 1, bad, is backup via xyz app to c:\mybackup.qic

Case 2, not a problem is backup via xyz app to c:\my
documents\backups\mybackup.qic
