Spybot, registry, & shutdown

I have recently installed the new version of Spybot S&D and part of the new
program is an pop-up window asking if I want to allow a registry change (I
think to the Boot registry). This seems to occur after I run a Norton Scan or
try to launch a XP Check Disc. I try to do both of these every week.

In addition, when I runthe XP Check Disc, which requires a restart, my
systems locks up and will not shut down unless I use the power on/off switch.

I do not know enough about the registry(s) to allow or disallow the
suggested changes. I tried a registry 'optimizer' once which did nothing to
improve performance but created a big headache in fixing the changes that it
made. So now, I am a little 'gun-shy' with changes to the registry.

Thanks for any insights or suggestions.

What would you have done before installing Spybot S&D? Nothing because
you would not have known it was being changed. Remember it is not Spybot
making the change. Spybot is only giving you the opportunity to stop the
change if you want to.

When the question arises just think about what you are doing at the time
and whether you would expect it to need to make a change. If you are
installing or configuring a new programme then you might expect a
change. If you are surfing or writing a Word document you would not
expect a change. Just relate change to your current activity.

Hope this helps.
