Spurious folder expansion signs [+] in XP Explorer

Will G

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 running XP Home, SP1

In Windows XP Explorer, dragging a file from one folder to a folder which
has no subfolders will cause a spurious folder expansion sign [+] to appear
beside the dragged-to folder. That is, the [+] will appear even though the
folder has in fact no subfolders. The spurious [+] can be chased away by
collapsing and re-expanding the parent folder or by doing a View-Refresh.
But the [+] should never have appeared in the first place.

Has anyone else encountered this? Thanks.

Will;

I have had the spurious expansion [+] appear in *both* XP
Home and Pro. Yes, it's annoying! So far I've just chalked
it up as one more goofy XP deal.

I am curious if there is a fix. I've not run across one. :-(

Wes,

Thanks for the reply. It's always reassuring to know that's one's system is
not *uniquely* screwed up!
