Spread Spectrum Clocking settings for Hitachi T7K250?

I

Ian R

Hi

I'm just waiting for delivery of my new Hitachi T7K250 (SATA) and other
system components.

Hitachi supply a "Feature Tool" to enable SATA II mode and also Spread
Spectrum Clocking.

I've not heard of Spread Spectrum Clocking. Is this another term for NCQ?

A review of the drive in customPC magazine said that for best performsance
NCQ must be enabled.

If SSC isnt the same as NCQ, does anyone know where I access the NCQ
settings?

I've ordered a new ASUS A8N-SLI Premium mobo but I've yet to find out if
it supports SSC.

Thanks for any info.

No. Spread Spectrum Clocking is to reduce
electromangnetic emissions from the equipment
(http://www.sigcon.com/Pubs/edn/jitterfreeclocks.htm)
and Native Command Queueing is to minimize the
time used for HD read/write head movement
(http://www.neoseeker.com/Hardware/faqs/kb/15,71.html).
