Speed or Storage

A co-worker and I had a discussion today about dual channel memory.

He thinks that a configuration of two 512Mb sticks in dual channel mode
still give him one (1) gig of storage. (I think he said he had pc3200)

I argued that he only has 512Mb of ram storage. But with twice the
bandwidth
@ 128bits - pc6400.

If I'm wrong that would be wonderful!

If you put two 512MB sticks in a computer, whether the motherboard
supports dual channel or not, the machine will give you access to a
full gigabyte of RAM.

Easy enough to check for yourself -- sounds like you're not easily
convinced. Find a machine configured with dual channel RAM and query
the OS about the installed amount of RAM.

My bad.
Like I said earlier it was a discussion with a co-worker.

For some reason I thought when you config in dual channel
you sacrificed capacity for speed.

I can have my CAKE and eat it too.

My extra HyperX stick is on the way.
