specifying Date criteria

Hi,
I want to select records based on date which is a field that look like this:
xx/xx/xxxx.
I specified this as criteria in Design View: <"06/15/2003"
But it does'nt work.
Access does not recognize the field as a date.
Thanks for any help on this.

QUESTION WITHDRAWN.
I got it to work, by going to the table and change the format to date.
