Specifications

Hello!

My supervisor makes presentations that his staff have created using
Powerpoint 2003. We use lots of audio, video and animation. Usually he brings
a laptop with him to ensure that the presentation will play without a hitch.

However, if he did not want to bring the laptop, I would need to ensure that
the place he is going has the specifications required.

How "backwards compatible" is Powerpoint? Should our specifiactions be
"Powerpoint 2003 only?"

thanks!

If you are going to have your presentation on earlier version of powerpoint,
the best way is to disable new features under Tools > Optionns. Then click
Edit tab.
You can disable the three settings:
New animation effects, multiple masters, password protection.

If you use a lot of animations that are not supported in earlier version,
the most likely thing to happen is that the animation will be replaced by
"appear".
Check this out for the comparison:

Also, just save your ppt as normal presentaiton file will do.

When dealing with multimedia in PowerPoint the version isn't as important as
having all the media files, codecs, and players in place and working
properly. PFCMedia is an add in that solves these issues automatically when
install on the presentation creation PC. (It need not be installed on
client machines.) You may down load a free trial copy from
www.pfcmedia.com.

Concerning animations, yes this might be a problem as PowerPoint 2002 and
2003 have animations that are not in previous versions and they will NOT be
displayed in earlier versions. You can solve this in two ways. Disable the
newer features in PowerPoint by going to Tools > Options and on the View tab
select the features you want to disable. The other option is for the client
machines to install the free PowerPoint viewer which will allow them to view
all the new animation features.

I'd actually just use PPT 2003's Package for CD option -- it will run the
file from the PPT 2003 Viewer on the CD. No need to install anything on the
recipient system(s).

(Not trimming Austin's original post, because the info about media is
important.)
