speakers and headsets

I am trying desperately to play my music direct via Media player on the web
and talk at the same time, like acting as a DJ, but I have a 6 speakers set
plugged into the audio ports of the sound card and a USB headset. Is there an
easier way to do this other than to unplug the speakers every time and how do
I get rid of the background noise on the mic of the headset? Are there
settings that help this or is it a matter of buying a new/additional sound
card?

Any help or advice would be really appreciated, as surely in this day and
age there has to be a way?

I doubt it for the moment - you have not given any info at all re your sound
card or even your Audio Manager - what Media Player? Microsoft - version?

Hello Stewart
I am not too sure what you are exactly trying to do when you say 'play music
and talk on the web' - is it your own website or are you thinking of any old
web site - are you attempting to set up a live type of DJ site or what.
I have played music and spoken via headset on Messenger but I have a feeling
this is not what you want.
Background noise - from where or what.
I would have thought that a couple of hours Googling would broaden the field
of information.
You got no replies to your previous post - have you now sorted that problem.
I wish you luck in your quest

Yes Antioch that is exactly what I wanted to do. I want to try play music
for others sort of like a DJ, speaking in between, but to date I have not
been able to work out the settings or when I think I have, by hearing the
music through the headset and not through the speakers then I am told that
there is noise on the mic. In the ideal world I would like to use the
headset without having to disconnect my speakers and when I speak not get
backround noise and humming. That is why I bought a USB headset as I was
hoping this would stop me having to disconnect the speakers, but now I am
thinking this was a waste of money and I shoild have bought a duo plug
headset and then use that in the speaker connections. I am just not sure if
its my settings for the headset.

basically I have no clue, and thank you so much for taking an interest,
maybe if you did the same you could let me know what your settings were for
the headset? I mean would it make a difference if the headset was a USB or a
twin plug?

Thank you again

Well Stewart, my porcine mind must be is active tonight - despite your
additional info re what you are trying to do (I gave you a multi choice of
possibilities) your reply was 'yes that is exactly what I wanted to do', so
the process of elimination is not resolved.
If you ask a human if they would like a cup of coffee or tea, the human will
make a choice.
If you ask the same question of a computer its reply will always be 'YES'
Back to the problem - I feel with the lack of responses, your wish is
unsolvable. If it is then there must be some software out there that would
enable you to do this.
I also have a Realtek HD Audio Output with Realtek Audio Manager - is your
Audio Codec ALC882 just as a matter of interest.
I use an Altec Lansing headset with high/low sound filtering and twin
jacks - was advised not to use USB connectivity.
I only have a 2.1 sound/speaker system with a twin jack connection for
headset on one speaker, plus front twin jack connections on the case.
According to what connectivity I use and with configuration in the audio
manager, I can use the headset to speak in messenger and with a single jack
mic, I can send sound.
The receiver lets me know if voice is drowned by the music - as yet no
complaints re quality of both.
The mic is plugged into the mic socket on rear of the case - only one of the
two speaker plugs is required - the green audio out.
With jiggling of controls I can hear music in the headset or not as I wish.
There are settings in the audio manager to suppress noise and echo.
I found it a case of trial and error at first getting things set up - one
little thing I did discover when I was trying to test the mic and it
appeared to be not working - when it is first plugged in, either front, rear
or speaker, the mic needs to warm up - this takes up to 20 seconds to do so.
This is apparently normal - why I have no idea.
In conclusion, a couple of hours on Google must be worth it, if you are that
keen.
Good luck

I understand that you are trying to play music through your speakers, while
carrying on a separate conversation with your headset. I assume you want to
keep the conversation separate from your audience.

I don't know if there are other ways of doing this, but here's what I do. I
also have a Realtek AC97-based sound card on my PC as and it's connected to
my speakers. I also have a Logitech USB headset, which essentially acts as a
second sound card. When you have 2 or more sound cards installed in your
computer, you can use the software options of whatever player you're using to
force the program to either (A) output sound to a specific device or (B) use
the default system device. Instead of a USB headset, this would also work if
you installed another sound card and plugged a 'dumb' headset into that.

The music from the speakers will come through your headset to a certain
extent, of course. You can minimize this by trying not to use the 'Mic
Boost' option, though.

I use Media Player to pipe music into the speakers as follows :

- Select 'Tools', then 'Options' from the menu bar and select the 'Devices'
tab.
- Pull up the properties on the Speakers
- Change 'Audio device to use' from 'default' to the sound card connected to
your speakers.

Once thats done, you can use your IM software (i.e. Skype, or whatever
software you're using to converse with). The menu selections will be
slightly different for every program, but you'll figure it out.

So to recap, my solution for you is :

- Purchase a second sound card or USB headset and install it.
- Use the options in your software to 'force' the different audio programs
to use different devices.

Hope it helps ! :)
