SP4 install troubles

I see that I'm not the only one that is having trouble
with the SP4 (end user) express install.

After about 3 hrs I have 3 windows on my screen.
1. The orginal web page (Installation History) that shows
the sp4 installation is in prgress.
2. Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Setup Wizard, with "Running
processes after install" in the Details box.
3. Windows Update -- Web Page Dialog, The Download
Progress: bar is complete. The Install progress: bar is
full but does not say complete.

After I give up and close all these windows I get a
message that this will cause the install to fail. But the
orginal web page window will show that the install was
completed after I close the other 2 windows.

I then get a "Need to restart your computer to complete
the installation." message.

After the restart I find that some new third party
software has been installed on my computer.

My ZoneAlarm Pro program reports that "services.exe" is
requesting internet access to IP 204.147.80.5:DNS
Then "services.exe" is requesting internet access to IP
192.168.3.1:DNS Then a program call "Stop Sign" starts
running. I don't want this program and SP4 installed it
without asking for my ok.:(

Has anybody installed SP4 with out using the "end user
express install" and not have any of these problems, if so
how did you do it.

Thanks

I notice that I left out some information in my previous
message.

I use Norton's Ghost 2003 image of my drive before I
started this so just redo the drive with that image to get
back to where I was before I tried to install SP4. I have
tried this 3 times and I'm not going to try again for
awhile until I here from some of you.

Thanks,
Joe

Well I tried again anyway. This time I downloaded the
W2KSP4.EXE file as Fabio suggested to Larry. "My
suggestion is that you download the Network Installation
of SP4.

Go here to download it:
http://www.microsoft.com/Windows2000/downloads/servicepacks
/sp4/download.asp"

I did that and then tried to installed it while my
Norton's AV was turn off as suggested still get to the
point with the following message:

Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 Setup Wizard, with "Running
processes after install" in the Details box.

I let it sit there for a couple hours before I gave up and
had the task manger end the task.

After I restart the computer the system properties box
shows I'm using "Microsoft Windows 2000 5.00.2105 Service
Pack 4. Zone alarm still reports the three request for
programs requesting Internet access. The third one that I
didn't mention before is:
eAthology Download modue
IP 66.28.248.162:HTTP
Applicantion: defscan_install.exe

Can anybody help?

Thanks,
Joe

Hello Joe,

I have this same issue. Just to clarify, are you up and
running after you closed the windows and restarted? I am
not an expert on this stuff so my machine has been
setting in this position until I figure out what to do. I
do not wish to try reinstalling if I can avoid it.

Thanks for replying,

Bryan
