SP4 Install Device Conflict Blue Screen

J

Jeff Marsh

After a user selected Automatic updates and updated with
SP4, he rebooted and got a blue screen on the windows
startup screen and it is saying there is a device
conflict. Although no other periphial devices are
installed other than keyboard, mouse, network, monitor.

Anybody have any issues like this? Also, can not boot
into safe mode or Recovery console. Any help would be
appreciated.

You should be able to uninstall it via recovery console. There should be an
uninstall batch file located at:
%systemroot%\$ntservicepackuninstall$\spuninst\spuninst.bat. This would not
have anything to do with recovery console, not sure why you cannot get into
that.

To be able to uninstall in RC this option must be set in
the first place. Now, since I can't boot in any way
except in RC the solution must be anywhere else.
I read in another tread that there was a registry setting
that can be set.
Anyway to do that in RC?

The file mup.sys is blamed in that thread. I tried to
replace it with one from £NtServicePackUninstall$ but
whit no luck.
The server is a testserver with Exchange 2k SP3 running,
still I like to find a solution and not wipe before I
have to
