SP3 install time?

I finally got around to installing SP3 last night. And...everything seems to
have gone OK. However, it took nearly 45 minutes for my system to install
this thing. Is that normal? Or, do I perhaps have a problem lurking
somewhere in the background.

I have a Dell desktop 4550 (with Home XP) and religiously run anti-virus,
spybot, etc., and nothing shows up.

Everything is running fine...I'm just curious about the installation time.

Thanks!

Installation time is not out of line. Time can be affected by amount of
memory, disk size, processor speed, virus programs etc etc. etc. I have a
very fast system, no virus programs, 1 gig memory and 180 gig hard drive and
my update time was about 30 minutes.

45 Minutes seems just a little longer than average. A lot of the time
depends on things like disk drive speed, Temp space and what if
any active scanners might be running. Actually, installing a Service
Pack is best done from Safe Mode. This way all 3rd-party drivers
and services are not running. Done this way you want to avoid the
"Safe Mode with Networking" option as your normal protections
aren't in place.

I tested installing SP3 using Windows Update, using either Zone Alarm and
the built in Windows Firewall. There were no noticeable differences in the
time it took to install SP3 using either firewall. However in order to
document and collect the data I wanted, a series of tests were conducted by
repeatedly installing SP3 using Windows Update over a number of days and
there where variations in the time to install SP3 ranging from as little as
24 minutes to as much as 50 minutes. My Internet service is rated at 20Mbps
and typically speed test results are 19Mbps.

Perfectly normal, based on past experiences. Especially in light your
providing of no other data to consider. Took me about an hour, a
littlie less; didn't pay close attention.

On 2 year old hardware I found it install in around 30 minutes but
this setup did not have much in the way of apps installed. On new
hardware, I've installed it in 15 minutes. I depends on what you have
installed before SP3 was laid down.

THANK YOU ALL for your replies. I really appreciate it...and I feel much
better knowing that I'm somewhat 'normal'. Well, my PC is anyway.

On my Dimension 4600 and Inspiron 6000 and using the CD:
Install time - 10 minutes
Cleanup time - 20 minutes
Total time - 30 minutes

My systems were fully patched (for SP2 anyway) before I started the update.
