SP3 breaks WORD - OUTLOOK 2002 link

Using Office XP (2002) on Win 98 (not SE). User wants to use WORD as
Outlook's e-mail editor. Clicking "New" produces "Starting Word as your
e-mail editor" which hangs for about a minute and then generates a message
"This form requires Word as you e-mail editor but Word is either busy or
cannot be found." I've applied the suggested registry deletions as
recommended in KB319796, and then "Repaired" Office. Did not solve the
problem.

It seems this problem surfaced after applying SP3. FYI, if you open and
then close Word separately from its own shortcut, and then click "New" in
Outlook, Word loads instantly as the editor.

Any idea how to help Outlook find Word?

Thanks

Ted

try deleting these 4 files that Outlook will re-create
when it opens backup again: frmcache.dat, views.dat,
outcmd.dat, extend.dat .. also look for email.dot &
normal.dot and delete them...

Well it was worth a try, but it didn't work. Only two files were
re-created, normal.dat and extend.dat. I have the originals saved by
renaming them.

Going on vacation for a week so will have to start a new thread when I
return.

Thanks for trying
