Hi everyone, i have been running XP pro,on my laptop, for 2years, without any
problems at all. When SP2 appeared on my laptop, as an update,i downloaded
it,without any problems.Recently, i have encountered a few problems,
1. if i hit the search button, it refuses to open att all.
2.if i try to open any files, or folders,i get an error, like, windows
messenger has encountered a problem and needs to shut down.
3. if i try to print from a web page i get an error, which wont allow me to
print, my printer works fine, off line.

I can be more specific, about the errors, but my question, is it SP2,
causing these problems, or something else going wrong on my laptop?
Thanks,Chris Jackson.

Most problems like these are not from SP2 but more than likely due to
spyware/hackware/malware programs that get installed onto you system,
WITHOUT your knowledge. This is the new style of attacks.

For free removal tools:

Ad Aware SE 1.05
Spybot: Search and Destroy 1.3
CWShredder

or try Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1 utility.

I had a problem like this after installing SP2, but it was not SP2 that
was the problem. It was that VB Scriping had been removed from the
machine. Search and some other things rely on vbs in order to work.

If you open IE, click on Help, About - if it doesn't show the version or
Cipher Strength or the Product IP or the Update Version, then it's the
same thing I found.

There is another link for 2000/XP, but I can't remember it, the thread
was about reinstalling IE on XP and my post was on 12/17/2004 - there
was a chap that was nice enough to post a link to the 2000/xp scripting
link on MS's site - take a look and see if this solves your problem.

FROM MY OLD POST:
When opening Explorer, selecting Search, all you get the the left search
panel, but it doesn't contain anything. Just the little doggy.

I tried everything, could not fix it, until I hit upon a little known
issue for 98, ME, NT in Windows Scripting!

Oh, I found his link:
