SP2 with Intel 865 and 875 Chipsets

Thanks for posting that Cari. I didn't see Carey Frisch's reply because I
Plonked
her a long time ago as being a waste of time. The wisdom of my decision has
again been confirmed. Frisch is wrong again when she infers that I have a
BIOS
problem. Carey, when you talk to me shut the #%& up!

I agree with putting Carey in your "kill" filter, however, for your
information Carey is male not female. Just thought you would like to
know....

Regards.

That makes her even worse then.

Yeah, I read that and can't figure out exactly what it's talking about. It
must be some newer version of Prescotts. I've been running 2.8GHz Prescotts
on 875 chipset Asus P4C800-E Dlx since Mar with NO problems. In Mar. I
checked and found that the Prescott WAS compatible with the P4C800-E Dlx.
Does anyone know for sure what that article is saying??

Prescotts have been shipping in mass since Mar and there has been no CRY
that they don't work on the 875 chipset mobos so this article is about
something else but WHAT?

MSI announced support for the new Intel Prescott CPU
for my motherboard (MSI 865PE Neo2) when I purchased
it about a year ago. However, the BIOS update required
to actually support a Prescott CPU only became available for
my MSI motherboard on 2-12-2004.

My belief is many motherboard manufacturers, offering
the latest and greatest motherboards, are touting support
for the new Prescott CPUs, but until they provide the "actual"
BIOS update for a Prescott CPU, the statement "will support"
can be misleading. "Will support" can mean "in the future",
when a BIOS update is made available so it "can support"
a Prescott CPU.

Examples:

BIOS Update (2-12-2004):

- Support Prescott CPU & update Microcode.
- Support Extreme OSB logo.
- Display L3 cache.

BIOS Update (7-16-2004):

System cannot login to PXE server without floppy drive installed.
- System cannot boot by Non-DOS floppy boot disk.
- BIOS reported incorrect CPU temperature.
- Update USB code.

Now, one more time... if YOU PERSONALLY are not prepared to purchase a
Prescott CPU and i865 or i875 chipset motherboard, stop bothering us with
your immature attitude. Either assist in solving the problem or disappear
and go bother someone else. I'm too busy helping people who do have the
problem. Since you appear to have no computer problems of your own, go HELP

So far you have provided no help but only somekind of list with very sparse
details.

Where's the BEEF?

What's the nature of the problem and what's the fix?

What about possibly the most common 875 chipset mobo of all the Asus P4C800?

I've got two workin just fine here. One XP SP1 and another SBS2003.
According to one of the claims/URLs in this thread that couldn't possibly be
so.

Go get something to tell us all about and don't bother posting again until
you've got the BEEF!

Product Code # of your Prescott CPU would be good to know. It's on the side
of the box. I doubt you actually have a Prescott.

But the interesting thing is you don't seem to have upgraded the XP box to
SP2. So my challenge to you today is why not?

Stop this silly unprofessional HW list. Any HW expert knows that the BIOS
version and the mobo revision level and the mfg date should always be
included in such a list. To make some vague statement that the BIOSs are
all the latest is simply incompetent.

In addition there needs to be some clear statement about what the list
represents. There needs to be listings of any EXCEPTIONS to the list.
There needs to be a statement about any resolutions.

What's been posted here so far is simply meaningless.

Easy, SBS2003 and interactions....known issue.....progress pending.

Curious how this thread has suddenly gone MUTE. Does anyone have any real
detailed information on what exactly the nature of this issue IS? The OP is
still waiting for his questions to be answered!

C

Cari \(MS MVP\)

If we knew the answer, my desktop would be happier. No, we have no idea and
have heard nothing back from either any of the motherboard manufacturers,
from Intel or from Microsoft as yet.

As you may notice, I changed the subject line to please you.

I still haven't found anyone in any newsgroup, forum or PC User group who
has managed to install SP2 on a Prescott powered CPU.

You are referring to the Prescott chips right?

Right. It's a microcode update issue. See the thread titled:
"Prescott/CeleronD/ExtremeEdition and SP2 Fix"
