SP2 Wireless Icon

I notice that after installing SP2 the little wireless icon down in my tray
has only one blinking computer screen, not two as before. Does anyone know
of any third-party utility that will show up/down Internet activity along
with an indication of the connection speed? Some USB wireless adapters come
with software that can be called up to show a screen with a 'shuffling
bargraph' that displays up/down connection statistics on a moment-to-moment
basis. But electing to have Windows do the wireless management supercedes
the installation of these utilities. It would be nice to call up a screen to
monitor the connection to see if a particularly lengthy download is truly
slow or not. Thanks.

Hi Jim,

In My Network Places select "View network connections" under
Network Tasks. Double click on the Connection in question and
select properties. Put a check next to "Show icon in notification
area when connected"

Here's another utility you may want to look at.
Network Downloads : NetStat Live /// AnalogX:

Thanks, Bert,

I couldn't find anything labeled "Network Tasks" under "My Network
Places," so I couldn't "View Network Connections." Maybe this option doesn't
come up because of the way the USB adapter was installed. HOWEVER, I did
download that neat utility from AnalogX; it's just what I was looking for...
and more! I left your name (+ MVP status) in the product registration box
where they wanted to know how I found out about it. Thanks again, --Jim

Hi Jim,

You're welcome and glad you like the NetStat Live.

To view Network Task, open "My Network Places" ,click
Tools, Folder Options, and under the General tab, make
sure the "Show common tasks in folders" is checked.

Okay, Bert,

Did as instructed, the 'show icon' was checked. I was originally a bit put
off because the icon is a single indicater under SP2, and I suppose shows any
activity, up or down. But the NetStat Live is great, and I've got it
configured to start on boot-up and minimize to the tray when I close it.

Thanks again,

Jim
