SP2 - Will sp2 ever be updated?

P

Paul Sala

I downloaded XP SP2 from MS. The file name is:
WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe

Question: Will MS ever change, modify or update XP SP2? Or does it stay cast
in stone?

I know MS does sometimes update or modify hotfixes. Although they may have
the same KB filename they can be updated versions.

The reason I ask is this; Say 3 months from now I need to format my HD and
reinstall my XP and sp2. Should I use the 270 meg sp2 I downloaded in August
or should I download a new sp2.

thanks.....paul

The currently released SP2 file will not change. If updates are required,
you'll be able to get the "hotfixes" via Windows Update. Microsoft will
not incorporate future hotfixes into the core SP2 file.

Hi Paul

There may not be any Hotfixes ATM, but I would presume there will be in the
future. There may not be another SP2 file to download at a later stage -
just the Updates via Windows Update. If you have a Broadband connection, a
download of the SP2 file would be handy for later use if need be.

Unless of course matters are confused because a Court orders MS to remove
something contained in it again, a la the Sun Java Runtime Environment
with SP1.

And yes, I know that SP1a was just SP1 without SJRE included ;)
