nLite requries .Net installation. I used AutoStreamer and it was simple and
easy. Makes the whole operation automatic. You point it to the XP CD and
the SP2 file and where you want to save the .iso it creates. Then just burn
the .iso.

Sounds good to me but it leaves me wondering if the burned CD will be
bootable? I use Nero and have the option to create a bootable CD.
However, it has been so long since I've done that I don't remember the
details. That is no problem: I know where to find that info if
required.

Thanks.

Just use the Burn Image options of Nero to produce a bootable CD.
No need to use the bootable CD option.

No need to use the bootable CD option.

Note that you must have an image of the boot area for Nero to use, and
you must set the size in Nero's extended options on the Burn page to
burn 4 sectors. And select No Emulation. Also take Finalise CD when
you burn

This tool will extract a suitable image file from a regular XP CD

Go to http://www.nu2.nu/bbie/ and download the bbie.zip file, extract
bbie.exe into say D:\boot

Put your CD in the drive (say letter K:)
Start - Run the line
Start - Run D:\boot\bbie.exe K:
which will make a image1.bin file in that folder

Autostreamer does everything for you, including creating a bootable CD
image. You just burn it as you would any iso image. Basically, all it
really needs is a source (that being an original Windows CD or a local
share) and a Service Pack file. Mine boots fine. Simplest way I have seen.
Give it a try.

I tried this but when I burned the ISO file it didn't boot from the CD.
What exactly do you do with this ISO file? I was able to slipstream using
Easy CD Creator Classic 6 from Roxio using instructions from The Elder Geek
on Windows XP.

I was not able to create the boot disc using Creator 7.

Not familiar with Roxio but you burn an Image, not just a file. In Nero I
have to select Disk Image for burning an ISO file. Look for something like
Burn from Image.

With Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 all you have to do is double click
on the .ISO file, put a blank CD in the drive, and click BURN.
