SP2 Questions

I am not sure this is the correct forum for SP2 Questions but
I will give it a try. I ordered a SP2 disk, I am still running SP1
& happy but I gues it is time to switch.

1. The order for the disk stated "Windows XP Professional SP2 English NA
Patch CD Web Only Pro/Home".
What is "NA Patch above" Does that mean that there are no updates on the
disk? Also what does the
"Web only" mean?

2. If I make a "restore point" before the update. Can I always go back if
things get screwed up?

NA = North America

Patch CD = You're getting SP 2 only, not Windows with SP 2.

Web Only = This offer only available from the web.

A restore point won't revert you to a pre-SP 2 state. For that you need to take an image of your system partition.

Thanks for the fast response. What you are saying is that if SP2 gives
me trouble I am SOL. I am not that great fixing things. I am running
both Norton Anti Virus & Zone Alarm Fire Wall. With my luck
I am sure that things will go from good to bad. Since I don't know
how to do the image I will stick with SP1. Once again.
Thnaks.....

SP 2 is an easy upgrade - providing your computer is problem-free. I've seen it said that service packs are "Judgement Day" for computers that are misconfigured or have other problems (viruses, incompatible software, etc.) Fortunately, Microsoft gives you lots of information to prepare for an error-free upgrade, and there's a ton more information on the web.

Do not let the potential for problems determine you will not install SP-2.
Otherwise you may as well not ever install anything.
SP-2 gets more bad press largely because of the large numbers involved.
Few if any 3rd party programs are as widely installed as a Service Pack and
thus their failures are less and seem insignificant.

The reality is most computers that have problems with a Service Pack
installation had pre-existing problems.
All problems, known and unknown, should be resolved before installing a
Service Pack.

Follow the Service Pack Installation Checklist:

Thanks again for the responses & advice. The other thing that bothers
me is after installing I will down to downloaded all the "fixes" since
they are not going to be on the CD I ordered. Since I connect via
dial-up I am sure that iit will take a great deal of time since I would
only download a few at a time, restart & run awahile to insure that
they work. It would be great if the Cd had uptodate patches.
But thanks to all.........marvo
