SP2 Limited or no connectivity

After installing SP2, I cannot connect to the Internet. The LAN icon gives me
the message "This connection has limited or no connectivity. You might not be
able to access the Internet or some network resources. "
Renewing the IP address doesn't work
Microsoft patch (KB884020) doesn't work
I uninstalled SP2 and the network is back to normal, but my Windows doesn't
have the latest security updates.

Try updated drivers for your NIC and other network devices.

Other "straws to grasp":

Flush DNS

Click Start, Run, type:

IPConfig /FlushDNS [Press Enter key]

NETSH

Click Start, Run, type:

netsh winsock reset

Press Enter key

Restart the system

Thank you for your advice, but I have tried almost everything. I can ping
using IP address or the URL, but cannot browse the Internet using Firefox or
IE. On top of that, I cannot get rid of the taskman.exe from the startup
folder. I am thinking about reinstalling Windows, but I am not sure it won't
happen again.

Thanks Joe,
I was also having problems with "limited or no
connectivity". Dowloading amd installing the KB884020 patch appears to have
fixed it. What a good group.

The following thread suggests you have AOL and should leave Taskman.exe
running. A reinstall of AOL after SP2 might correct the problems.

If you don't have AOL, that's a horse of a different color.. This
thread suggests malware.

A Google Groups search of the many posts on taskman.exe and/or the
problem might help with a solution.

taskman.exe in startup

taskman.exe connect to internet (Only ~67 posts to pore through)
http://groups.google.com/groups/search?q=taskman.exe+connect+to+internet&qt_s=Search

Change the parameters of the search to narrow or widen the results.
