SP2 freezes on Compaq Presario 2500 when resuming after standby

After installing SP2 on my Presario 2500 the machine reliably freezes with a
black screen when resuming after standby. Normal shutdown and hibernate work
fine. I've seen no other irregular behavior after installing SP2 (yet),
however I can no longer use standby mode. Had this machine for 8 months and
have not experienced this problem before SP2. I installed from a network
install .exe I downloaded from MS's TechNet link.

Such problems are almost invariably tied to a driver issue, usually either
for the graphics card or the soundcard. Check the website of the card
manufacturer for the latest XP drivers for the card.
