SP2 fixed Windows Messenger

Larc

I had been having problems with Windows Messenger for several months. It often
wouldn't start, XP instead showing an error message and asking if I wanted to
send an error report to MS. Deleting and re-installing WM didn't help. Nor did
doing a repair install of XP. But whatever was causing the problem, SP2 fixed
it. Messenger hasn't failed to start once since I installed SP2.

Unfortunately, WM 4.7 was changed enough that I may have to switch to MSNM 6.2
to get back some of the functions I no longer have.

| Hi Larc,
|
| Glad to hear it; I assume you're referring to the Hotmail functionality that's gone?

Exactly! I can't understand the logic behind taking that out. It's not my
primary email account, but it's nice to have and additionally nice when
something lets you know there's a message. Any way to change it back?

Hi Larc,

You can go back the previous version of Windows Messenger by downloading 4.7.2009 from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/messenger/download.asp

You'll get a message during the installation about a potential loss of functionality since
you're installing an older version, simply click "Yes" to this message.

Thanks very much, Jonathan. I doubt I'll be the only person running 4.7.2009
with SP2! ;-)

I have a question abut Windows Messenger that I just downloaded and
installed. Using my passport user name and password messenger will not log
me on, what is the fix for this? I can log onto hotmail.com and .net
passport directly with the same username and password. What gives?

Did you install the msn add-in? Click sign in and verify the address
(username@ hotmail or msn.com) and
password are correct. WM help offers some info on this issue also.

just what I was looking for, thanks.
To echo Larc's comment, it was a dumb idea to change this.
