SP2 Firewall warning

T

Tim

Hi there,

I am using a Belkin router with built in Firewall and so have turned off the
SP2 Firewall but every time I reboot I get a warning balloon saying the
Firewall is not on and a Red icon shield in the right-hand task bar, 'I
don't want or need it on' so any ideas how I stop the warning?

Many thanks, Tim.

Control Panel > Security Center

Click on the Recommendations button in the Firewall section in the Windows
Security Center window.

Check "I have a firewall solution that I'll monitor myself."

Open the Security Center located in your Control Panel,
look at the Resources in the left pane, click on "Change the
way Security Center alerts me", uncheck "Firewall" under
"Alert Settings", then click OK.

Hi there,

How did I miss that when I checked the AV one as it doesn't seem to
recognise Norton 2003 mind you Norton does its own checking.

Many thanks and sorry for rushing and not looking further than my nose.

Tim.

Control Panel - Security center. On the left click on 'Change the way.
.. . alerts me' and set it not to tell you about firewall

This is all well and good but what do you do when you do this, both
uncheck the alert box for firewall as well as check the box indicating
you have another firewall. Yet, every time I reboot, those checks have
been reversed so, once again I am alerted to my firewall being off
since the firewall alert check has mysteriously reappeared and the
check indicating my having a separate firewall has been removed.

It doesn't matter what I do - every time I reboot, any changes I make
to these firewall alerts revert back to the default. Any ideas?

I saw one report that the SymWMI can cause this. Are you using a
symantec 2004 product?
