SP2 firewall question

Using Windows XP Home with DSL. I have a firewall that
comes with the McAfee antivirus in MSN Premium. It works
with Internet Explorer as well as the MSN browser. Any
advangages to having both it and the new SP2 one
activated? Or is one better than the other?

I wouldn't want to run 2 software firewalls at the same time, because even
if it doesn't directly cause any problems in itself, it will vastly
complicate any network management, setting up programs that wish to use the
network, etc, which you have to do.

As for which one is better, I'd say that the best firewall is the one you
are comfortable using, so this probably suggests disabling the XP firewall
and keeping the McAfee one running.

I'd go with the McAfee one as using both is not a good idea. Try then both
seperately and make your own mind up.

You'll find those with different points on view on this. Here's
mine: don't do it. You achieve no extra protection, you incur the
extra overhead of running two firewalls, and you run the risk
(probably small, but not zero) of conflicts between them.

Thanks, everyone, I'll stick with the McAfee one, I
figured it made sense to use just one.

from what i'm reading, there should be no conflict
between xp firewall in sp2 and third party firewalls. i
intend to use sp2's firewall and outpost that i run now
and untill there's a conflict, both will work for me.
