SP2 download not working????

Hi,

Running XP Home Edition Service Pack 1 and I have visited
Windows Update web site which tells me that I am ready to
receive the auto update for XP SP2 (Auto update turned on
etc). Using wireless connection at 54 Mbps.

I have been waiting for a couple of days now and still no
download of SP2. Is SP2 for Home edition available yet or
is there something else I should be doing?

Thanks

I totally agree. IMO, Automatic Updates isn't the right venue to
distribute such a large file to so many people, despite what Microsoft says.
The experience many people are having now proves that. AU was "downloading"
SP2 yesterday on my computer for 5.5 hours and there was no progress.
Stayed at 0%. Frustrated, I shut AU down and rebooted my computer. Then I
downloaded the network install version from Microsoft (about 14 minutes with
cable modem) and installed it (took about 30 minutes). That was more like
it. Everything running fine so far.

It is a download in parts. Every day at the download time you specified
you will be alloted another small portion. Perhaps by Christmas you
will have downloaded the complete, ready to install update.

BTW, your wireless at 54Mbps has not one bit of effect in enhancing your
internet download speed which is controlled by the maximum speed of your
internet connection. Most cable systems max out at 3Mbps (plus or
minus), well within the 11Mbps of 802.11b wireless. DSL is often only
0.78Mbps. Your effective internet transfer rate will be, typically,
less than the rated maximum for your ISP.
