SP2 BUG

Since installing SP2 in a WinXP it no longer prints to any
of the network printers.

Printers are an HP on a 98se client and a Canon on the 98SE
Host.

Message on XP is A StartDocPrinter call was not issued.

Short of uninstalling XP and idea

With reference to the particular error message, Check the reference

General suggestions-
The usual procedure would be
1. Verify /reproduce the problem: remove SP2. Test printing. If OK.,
re-apply SP2 and re-test.

2. If OK. End. if not, run through the usual procedures to troubleshoot
XP network printing problems.

TO do that, try the file and printer trouble-shooter which can be
accessed through the XP help system. Start Help and Support
Type in network printer does not work. It will be at the top of the
list.

I have run the wizard and everything checks

Network and Intenret sharing are working fine.

Since it is on both shared printers and they worked fine I
assume it is a SP 2 problem

I have 12 SP2 patches listed in CP/Add-remove. Do I
delete individually or all at one or is there another way
to remove SP 2

Like going to a restore point Prior to Aug 13 when the
units was shut down for Hurricane Charley

If you have a restore point from before SP2 install and after any major
hardware or software changes, that would be ideal. Use that.

I am puzzled by the multiple listings for SP2. These are all for
"Windows XP SP2"?

I would suggesting getting the hotfix from this article and see if it
changes anything

Still waiting for information about the result. If unsuccessful, and the
hot fix unhelpful, the next step would be:

Boot Windows in safe mode. Remove SP2. Reboot in Safe mode, remove any
and all printer drivers. Remove any lingering registry entries for the
printers. Boot in regular mode. Apply SP2. Reinstall the latest printer
drivers for all printers.

Test.

When Windows XP SP2 is installed, all patches installed prior to that are no
longer listed in Control Panel Add/Remove Programs. So, if you have 12
patches listed, you do not have SP2 installed. Also, all System Restore
Points are removed.

Many patches issued prior to the release of Service Pack 2 have "SP2" in
their names as shown in CP Add/Remove Programs to indicate that these
patches will (now are) included in Service Pack 2.

To verify whether or not Service Pack 2 is actually installed:

click Start
right click on My Computer
select Properties

If SP2 is installed, it will say so under the "System:" heading.

Also, there will be a single entry in CP Add/Remove Programs that says
exactly "Windows XP Service Pack 2" (no KB article number or anthing else).

Most patches can be uninstalled using Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.

You can also uninstall Service Pack 2, at which point any patches you
applied prior to installing Service Pack 2 will re-appear in CP Add/Remove
Programs.

I suggest:
1. download and install Service Pack 2 - you should be able to do that
through Windows Update (Open IE, click Tools, Windows Update).
2. see if the information at
