I just installed service pack 2 on my comp w/ windows xp
professional. Now a red baloon poped up that syas it
reconizes norton antivirus but that it cant check the
status. Norton anti virus 2004 is installed and updated
with a subscription. How do I get this red baloon in the
task bar to go away and have windows know the status of
norton anitvirus?

You contact Symantec.

They know this problem exists and I think their solution is for you to
upgrade.

You were given wrong info by Shenan. The VMI update that will solve your
problem will be available from Symantec via LiveUpdate shortly. They are
aware of the problem and are working on the patch as you read this.

Unfortunately, they have been working on this patch for almost two months.

Norton 2004 security products
The Norton Windows Management Instrumentation Update for 2004 products,
previously available through LiveUpdate, has been removed for maintenance
purposes. An updated Norton WMI is projected to be available by LiveUpdate
in late September/early October.

I don't believe I was incorrect. Their solution *is* for you to upgrade -
it just is not ready for you to do so yet in your version of Symantec...
