crackback
I have installed SP2 on a WinXP Pro SP1 machine and have had a couple
of problems. The first, no internet/network connectivity, was solved
by a suggestion from PA Bear to try the winsock fix. Internet and
network is working fine again. Then I noticed that my Primary IDE
Channel, with a Maxtor 120Gb SATA drive, was set at Ultra DMA Mode 2,
instead of Mode 5, as it had been. I checked my Secondary IDE
Channel, where my DVD and CD burners are, and they are set to PIO
Mode, not DMA. After reading a few posts here, I tried deleting my
Primary and Secondary IDE Channels respectively, rebooted and let
WinXP reinstall. No change. I went looking for drivers to see if an
update might help solve the problem. Downloaded and installed the
newest VIA and Silicon Image 3114 drivers and still no change. I'm
stuck.
System is based on...
ABIT KV8 MAX3 w/ AMD 3200+
& 2 Sonys - 8X DRU530A DVD burner and CRX230A-U CD-R/RW
In a previous post Alex Nichol said, "You can rarely remove just the
secondary channel. Remove the master level - the one in the group
that is immediately above Primary, OK, and reboot"
Not sure I understand this reply. Immediately above Primary IDE
Channel is the general heading "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
I'm stumped. Anyone?
