Sounds & Audio Devices - I have no sound after formatting computer

Hi! I have just formatted my computer to change my drive partition. Now my
speakers are not working at all. I have tried to work out what is wrong in
the Sounds & Audio Devices but it says that there is 'No Audio Device'. When
I bought the computer, everything was installed and I don't have an
installation disc for my speakers (Altec Lansing 2100) but I have been told
that is not the problem anyway. Please help me if you can! Thank you,
Chantel

Hi,

You need to install your sound card drivers. Check with the manufacturer's
site if a driver disk was not included with your recovery media.

Go to the Altec Lansing website, locate, download and install the
appropriate drivers / software.

I tried that, did not work, also spoke to Altec and they said the speakers
don't require this and to make sure I have sound output for it is probably a
setup issue.

Would the 'Integrated Realtek ALC860 High Definition Audio' be the sound card
drivers? This is what is on my invoice but I don't think I have a disc for
this.

Did you have a disk with your motherboard? Use that one.

Try this, make sure your connected to 'net and make sure there's nothing in
diskette, CD or DVD drives

right click My Computer, select Properties, select Hardware Tab, click
Device Manager, down towards the bottom of list if you see Sound or Game Port
or something with a Yellow Question Mark you probably have a driver issue,
click to start up the Hardware Update Wizard, select "install the software
automatically" radio button, click next, the lighthouse icon should be their
- go havea cup of coffee or tea, when you return with luck your problems will
be resolved. Do the same for any other yellow question marks.

Then think about your backup/restore processes. Some b/r utilities provide
a driver specific process, or there are a number of products out there for
driver backup/restore.

Happy Easter and all that from downunder

Hi Philip,

I tried the Hardware Update Wizard on the following yellow question marks -

? Ethernet Controller
? PCI Device
? Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

However, it keeps saying 'cannot install this hardware'.

Is there something else I can try?

That's the right component, you just need a driver for it. What type of
machine is this? If it was purchased at a store, what is the make/model? If
you built it (or had a friend build it), what type of motherboard was used?
I'll see if I can find a link to the right driver for you.

The machine was bought from a shop in Cairns.

All I know about the motherboard is from the receipt -

* Intel D915GEVLK LGA775 Motherboard with 800MHz FSB

As for the make and model, I am not sure, receipt states -

* System PIV 3.4GHZ 00MHZ

Thank you so much for your help!

Run it by double clicking it and install the drivers. You may be prompted to
restart when completed.
