Hi

What happens if you type

sndvol32

from Start>Run? Does the 'Play Control' screen appear?

Hi

You should have a windows\system32\dllcache folder. Can't you find that
folder in Windows Explorer?

Hi

I've just thought - the dllcache folder is 'hidden'. So you need to open
Windows Explorer and go to Tools>Folder Options>View and check 'Show hidden
files and folders'.

when I got home I finally found it. so through a sort of convoluted way I
have access to the volume control panel. Would like to get the speaker icon
back in my system tray as I have certain plug-ins where I need to shut down
the system volume before opening. Any suggestions?? Again a big hand shake &
thanks

Hi

Try - Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices - enable 'Place volume icon in
the taskbar'.
