sound/video lockup

When I play video and sound together my pc locks up and I have to switch off
to reboot. This occurs in media player (ver 10) and games etc. Otherwise the
PC works normally. There are no conflicts reported, the drivers, BIOS etc
are all as up to date as possible. I have tried and tried to resolve this
but nothing works. Can anybody help please?

You probably have a bad codec installed for Media Player, or maybe a corrupt
sound driver.

Since Media Player acquires codec's as needed, you could try removing them,
and opening sound files online to let WMP automatically get the right
codecs.

Device Manager would let you remove the sound device, and restart to find
that again, too.
