sound skipping

I am trying to play a game, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, from EA
games, on my iMac Intel Core 2 Duo, running Windows XP SP2 through Boot Camp.
I am running it in Windows 95 compatibility mode, because otherwise, the
graphics don't display (that isn't the problem).
The problem is that whenever someone is speaking, the sound starts to
skip/repeat/cut out. Occasionally, all sounds cut out completely for a scene
after skipping worse than ever.
Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do to fix the skipping?
Please give as detailed instructions as possible, so they are easy for me to
follow.

Don't suppose you know what soundcard the system has in it? Have you also
made sure it is using the latest drivers.

Anyway we can try playing with audio acceleration.

If you go to Start -> Run type dxdiag and press enter. Then go to the sound
tab and try changing the hardware acceleration. That might do it.

Failing that the game is probably just incompatible with the sound hardware
or the driver.

I am not sure what sound card my system has; it is the standard iMac sound
card.
It's probably not an issue with it being a Mac, because it does the same
thing on my mom's Toshiba laptop (but not on my dad's Dell tower).

If you have a look in dxdiag you'll be able to see what sound card it has.

I am using a SigmaTel Audio card. The driver name is sthda.sys The version
is 5.10.5082.0000 (English) The date is 9/26/06

Can you tell us all how you managed to fix it, as I have the same problem,
but using the onboard sound from an Asus A8N-SLI motherboard. The same was
also true for my older PC using a Sound Blaster card.
