Sound Problem

My computer, xp, stopped playing sound - when I am trying to listen to a
radio station or a video clip, etc. It used to work fine so am not sure what
I did to stop it. We switched to Comcast high speed not too long ago, but
don't think that is the problem. My wife's computer still works fine. Any
idea what I might have done? Would this possibly be hardware? thks.

The first thing to do here is determine how widespread the problem is. You
say that you can't hear sound when you're trying to listen to a radi
ostation or a video clip, but you don't say if you're trying to listen to
either through IE, through other programs, or what. Are you getting any
sounds from Windows at all? The OS could be muting all audio, certain
programs you are using could be muted, a sound driver may be malfunctioning,
or maybe it's something as simple as a loose audio cable or speakers that
aren't on, powered, etc...

Could you be more specific as far as the nature of the problem?

Oh, and I doubt very much that your switch to Comcast was at all responsible
for this.

Thanks for reply. I should also say that I am not that technical.
No sound period is coming out period, I even bought new speakers and didn't
matter.
For example, I wentr to a couple of radio web sites just now to check,
thay both give an option of real audio and windows media - which worked
before. Now when you bring up, thay just show time moving as if it were
working, but no sound.
Thks.
