Sound Problem on Recorded Shows

A

Andrew

The Machine:
1.1 Gig Celeron
512 Megs Ram
Windows XP Home
Sound Blaster 5.1
All In Wonder 7500

I've downloaded the latest drivers and the multimedia 8.9. Picture and
sound is fine when the TV is launced
however the sound on recorded video is crap. The sound on Tv on demand is
crap as well. It is as if its using two different drivers, one for the TV
sound and One for the sound it records. Videos recorded before the drivers
have good sound even played back now. I have tried numerous combinations of
drivers and MMC's but anything not off the original disk seems to give me
this recording issue.

Any Ideas?

I exactly have the some problem ans on the ATI web site there's no solution
at this problem, execpt ... in some cases by changing the BIOS

Here's what I found

Static or distorted audio in captured files (also affects TV-ON-DEMAND)

In some systems it may be possible to prevent the distorted audio by
enabling the following option in system CMOS.

"AGP MASTER 1W/S WRITE"

NOTE: This option may not be available in ALL system BIOS versions.
Check with the motherboard manufacturer for an updated system BIOS.

I was having a similar problem with my Biostar M7NCD Pro mainboard. At some
point I downloaded the updated nvidia 2 drivers which included sound
drivers. This apparently was the problem because when I downloaded the
updated audio drivers from realtek, the sound got considerably better.

Bottom Line -- Get the latest drivers from soundblaster. ATI drivers won't
resolve this issue.

When you are listening to tv it is coming from the line in or aux hardware
connections. When you are listening to captured files or pvr it is coming
from a file on the hard drive. The volume that goes into the file is set by
the record level. The volume that comes out of the file is set by the wave
level. I'd start looking there.

Codecs compress audio into the file and decompress audio out of it. Are
they working properly? Sometimes newer versions of mmc require downloading
new codecs.

Well, this produced a significant improvement, while not quite as good as I
expect at least it gives me a starting point to see what the issue is.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure I have the latest drivers but I will check again, god only
knows what I did over the weekend ripping in and out drivers for the ATI
stuff.

I have the latest codecs and have played with countless volune levels on
playback and recording sides with no improvement except to raise and lower
the sound levels without affecting the distortion.

Thanks

I have the same problem when I upgraded the 7.5 drivers to 8.4 on my
AIW 8500. You will need to open the TV application and select setup.
From the Setup dialog, select the Display tab, then click the
Initilization Wizard button. The wizard will step you through
selecting the proper inputs and adjusting the volume.

I had the same problem after upgrading my AIW 8500 to MMC 8.5. You
will need to go into the TV application and open setup. Then click the
dislpay tab and click the Initilization Wizard button. The wizard
will lead you through setting up the inputs and the volume levels.

Actually I take that back, it gave me a 100% improvement back to the way
things should be. Regained the rest of the performance when I bumped the
bitrate back to 128 from 64, the frequencey back to 48,000 khz and basically
undid all the things I did trying to get rid of the distortion.

Thanks a bunch,
Andrew
