until recently i was able to do slide shows in power point add music and have
it play throughout the slide show. Now when i add music it will only play on
the first slide and will not transition to the second slide. if i take the
music off it will work as a slide show. i have worked for hours trying to
figure out what is wrong them i talked to three other people and they were
having the same problem. one was a teacher of Power point.

Can anyone help me with this problem

Which version of PPT?

In PPT 2003 or earlier (some settings may be different) after the sound is
inserted, and you clicked on start automatically, on the first slide right
click on it and then click Custom Animation. Once selected in the window
that opens click on Start with previous which will start the sound
immediately. Click the drop down arrow next to the file name in the window.
Click effect option and then the effect tab. On the radio button for Stop
playing click After and put in the total amount of slides you have in the
presentation. Under Timing tab click Rewind when done playing.

In PPT 2007, click the sound icon on the Insert ribbon bar. Find and insert
the sound. Once the sound is inserted click on it. The Sound Tools ribbon
will open. Click on the dropdown arrow on Play Sound (Automatically) and
make it "Play across slides". Make sure Loop until stopped is checked if
you want it to repeat until the end of the presentation.

Hope this solves your issue. Let us know.
