Sound Issues

Hi-
I'm having issues with "certain" sounds on my system (XPHome). When I boot
the system, I hear the TaDa or whatever it's called; when I receive an
email, which I have set to make a .wav sound, I hear the sound fine. But on
my software, one is Quicken (but there are others), the normal sounds I hear
are not occurring. I've gone into the individual programs to ensure that
their respective settings are correct, toggled on, etc., and they are. Any
thoughts on why "some" sounds are working, and other are not? I reinstalled
SoundBlaster just for the heck of it and that did not change anything.
