I am using Windows XP. My sound is distorted like echo and sounds a little
sluggish.
I have used the help center but I am still having the same problem.

try to reinstall the drivers again. if the problem is still there your
speakers might be screwed. i had the same problem and it was my
speakers that were stuffed.

I have the same problem and i know it's not my speakers because it happens
the same when i connect other speakers or headphones. I tried already all the
steps on the Windows Troubleshooting (or some kind of troubleshooting) even
reinstalling the sound hardware but nothing works.

Hi All,

Instead of posting Sound troubles, it would be nice if you include information on your systems, if you are asking for help. Like What Sound Card is installed or if on the motherboard, what Sound Chip is installed and its numbers or the Motherboard Brand Model Number.

Problem may not be Windows, but setting up the proper drivers.

I have an eMachines running on Windows XP Home Edition SP2. I think my
soundcard is Realtek AC97. But the weird thing is that i didn't change any of
my settings or anything like that. All of a sudden it started to sound like
that and I don't know why. I don't know much about computer systems or
configurations that's why i don't mess with that. I'd appreciate it if you
could help me.

Hi E.M.,

Which model eMachines? This way I can look it up before answering. What is it sounding like also?

For example, I have a AXPER XP-P42533PE Motherboard with C-Media 9761-A Sound Chip or I could just say I have an AC'97 Sound Chip. How is saying AC'97 giving you any information to help me? Different manufacturers and different drivers for each Sound Chip.

It the configuration utility for my Sound Chip, I can make it sound like under water, in a living room. All sorts of places. You may not have changed any settings, but that doesn't mean the settings weren't change by another process!

Re-check your settings!

I appreciate a lot you tried to help me, really thanks. But I fixed the
problem already. When i logged in normally to windows i couldnt do a system
restore, so i tried logging in safe mode and run a system restore and that
fixed the problem; it created some conflicts with recently installed software
but nothing i could fix by reinstalling it. Thanks "thecreator"

If anyone else has this problem try what i did, reboot in safe mode and try
to run a system restore.
