sound codecs

I'd installed K-lite Codec (I think their web is www.k-lite.tk if you wan't
to go and see which codecs it installs) pack and everything was fine. then a
friend sent me a video that I could not see properly (media player only
showed a gray screen, though it played the sound right). I asked my friedn
which codecs did he have, and told me he had a codec pack published by
Elisoft (Elisoft Codec pack v13.5 -- http://codecpack.elisoft.net).

on the latter's setup, I got adviced to uninstall any codecs already
installed before installing the pack. So I quit the setup, uninstall k-lite
codecs, and run setup again.

then I watched my friends video, but most of other videos could not be seen.
So I uninstalled Elisoft's pack and reinstalled k-lite.

However, I have no sound whatsoever now, and even if I go back to elisoft my
computer is mute.

Does anybody know how do I fix this?

Thanks in advance

Generally, there should not be any conflict involved in
having multiple codec packs installed on one system. More
is usally better, so you have the ability to view as many
video formats as possible. Try these (If you havn't
already): Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices... Under
the "Volume" tab, the "Mute" checkbox is blank right? If
so, click "Advanced" under the "Device Volume" pane. Click
Options > Properties. Is your Mixer device set to your
correct sound card or integrated audio? if so, try
checking all the boxes under "Show the following volume
controls:". Click "OK". Now, back to the regular Volume
Control panel, are any slider bars all the down, or muted
(or both)? Try pulling some up and playing your sound
source. If none of this has gotten you anywhere, check the
device manager by right-clicking "My Computer" and
selecting "Properties". Go to "Hardware", then "Device
Manager". Any yellow (!) circles? Try reinstalling the
drivers for the audio device with the problem.

Don't forget to check admin tools
Control panel-admin tools-services Check to see
if "windows audio" is set to automatic if not change it
automatic
