run another program that needs to use the sound such as a burning program it
shuts off my screen and I have to reboot to bring it back up. can anyone help

C2ofus2,
Try this, I noticed on my computer if I try to fix something related to
hardware, like sound cards, modems, dvd roms. Usually you can fix them and
their problems if you go to (follow me here) start;control
panel;sytem;hardware;device manager you should see a red x over your sound
card. Just right click that and select uninstall. Then restart. It should fix
your sound problems. The screen error??? That could have to do with your
video card. Do you have a video card or is it built into the motherboard?
Usually updating the video card driver (wether it is built in or a seperate
card) fixes the blank screen. Mine was doing the same thing but a lot (going
black and had to restart) figured out it was just hot, so I added a fan, now
its cool, so if you update the drivers and it doesn't help, then try an extra
fan.
