SOS...... !

Hi

Can Mr Sanderson or anyone from MS lurking this NG
as soon as possible put up a warning about localised versions.

It´s spreading rapidly now that users first uninstall MSAS and
then gets the "error 1609". No way back....(maybe Softpedia..)

From release notes....... !

"Globalization:
The current beta is in the English language although we will deliver
German and Japanese localized versions. All versions can be installed
on any locale but the user interface will only be delivered in these
three languages for testing purposes."

Scandal IMHO

Hi

Workaround from Jacek Kolonko available
"
Maybe the following commands do work on Windows XP Home Ed.:
1. (Start -> Run...) net localgroup Users /add
2. Install WindowsDefender.msi.
3. (Start -> Run...) net localgroup Users /delete

This workaround has been tested on Windows XP Professional.

I can't speak to this one yet--not sure when if ever.

I can say that releasing a beta in three major languages is as much as I've
ever seen Microsoft do--I think they are stretching to provide that--I hope
we'll welcome that effort.

Hi Bill

Please read "release notes"..... it can be used on any localised
version but only with 3 languages in the UI.

Probably millions of users uses a localised version.

20 million english and 5 million locals maybe ;)

Hi Plun,

Workaround for XP Home :

1- Create a new account named Users
2- Install WD
3- Delete account Users

Cheers

Hi Jean Marc

I like the net command workaround ;)

Faster and no need to wait for create/remove
the account.

The net command is around in every community forum now.

Working on XP Home ?

Cheers

Hi again

Yes, both for XP Home and Pro, verifed also.

;)

But for users which don´t find/visits any country community forums
for the MS OS and apps or MS supportgroups this is a disaster for
MS......... I am sure we will see a revision soon.

This error is really embarrasing for MS.

IMHO

Thanks for the tips.

Agree.

There is also another install error, but less important :

In Start menu, Windows Defender installs in "programs"...

But in french, this folder is named "Programmes", so WD
appears in wrong place. And it's clearly a problem that'll
appear on all foreign language's systems.

Hi

Yes the same error for swedish versions, just "program" in our
versions.

A good advice we are spreading in a swedish forum is to
directly make a shortcut to Defendern.

And to directly "Check for updates" to see that no firewall settings
blocks updates.

Plun--I may be mistaken, but I think this is referring to the beta--not to
plans for the released version.
