Sorting out my Mum's computer; error logging in XP

My 70 yo mother tells me that her computer "locks up" and that the "screen
freezes" sometimes.

Of course this never happens when I am there to fix it.

Is there an error logging system within XP that I can access to see what (if
anything) is going wrong?

Start > Run: eventvwr.exe

Since this problem might be caused by a hardware issue (RAM, hard disk,
power supply, overheating), there won't be related entries most likely
because the frozen(!) system couldn't create them.

Don't slam me down in flames if you already know/use this one, but: what
about looking at the Event Viewer? If you havn't looked at this, at the very
least it'll give you the options of viewing your mother's activity on her
computer say, in both 'Application' and 'System' categories. It's a very
useful tool since once you scroll down and find something has 'Error' written
next to it, if you click on the Error 'line', it then whizzes you across to a
M'soft dialogue box telling you what happened and, frequently, why... and
more often than not, where to go to put the little darling right!

If you've NOT used the Event Viewer before and can't initially locate it,
then you can always type it into the Search machine and, very quickly, the
program will be located.

Please accept impertinent suggestion if you've already done all this.
Nonetheless, best wishes!

open her pc and clean out the dust bunnies, and yes view the event viewer,
for application errors and etc.
