Sorting date fields by month excluding year

I have an access report that has been dumped into Excel. One particular
column list dates by month, day, and year. I am trying to sort the column by
month. The result I get includes the year. It will sort by year, then
month. I have tried reformatting data, changing text to columns, and sorting
with options of using months. My desired result is a column sorted by month
regardless of the year. I am sure this is something that can be done, but I
am stumped.

Put in a helper column and in it enter this:

=MONTH(A1)

where A1 is the date that you are trying to sort.

Copy as needed.
