Sorting a Column of Formulas

A worksheet of employee data is only 5 columns, and only one of those
columns, Length of Service, is data that is the result of a formula. That
formula subtracts the hire date from current date and shows number of days of
service. All the other data in the other columns is hard data. I wish to sort
by the Length of Service. When I click a cell in the Length column then click
AZ, about half the cells change to #REF!. When I click ZA, about 2/3 change
to #REF! and one changes to #####. I have accomplished the desired sort by
manually copying the results to another column and sorting by that column of
Hard data. It leads me to beleive that Excell can only sort Hard data. Or is
it possible to sort a column by the resultants of formulas? All ideas,
suggestions, and comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, K.

If the formula only refers to cells in the same row, which it sounds like it
does, then there should be no problem selecting the 5 columns and choosing
Data=> sort, choose the Length of Service column as the sort key.

Thanks Tom, I appreciate you taking time to consider and respond to my post.
I selected column A, then holding down Shift I continued to select columns
B,C,D, and E. The full length down of all 5 columns is now blue. Then I click
Data and Sort. The Sort window appears and I select Sort by Column C and
Descending. Then I click OK. Apparently the sort has been working properly
all along. This is the first time I have really looked beyond all the #REF!'s
and noticed the list is properly sorted as I wished even though the data in
the Length of Service column is full of #REF"S as before. I can live with
this. Once the list is sorted I really don't need the Length data anymore. It
would be helpful if the Length data appeared correctly after the sort but it
is not mandatory. Appreciate your help, K.
